1) Vegas caps historic comeback, takes Game 1

The Vegas Golden Knights came back from a 2-0 deficit to take Game 1 of the Stanley Cup Finals 5-4 over the Carolina Hurricanes.

  • Golden Knights F Tomas Hertl scored the go-ahead goal with 3:24 remaining in the 3rd period to secure the win.
  • Prior to last night, road teams were 0-55 when trailing by multiple goals at any point in a Stanley Cup Final Game 1.
  • The Hurricanes and Golden Knights remain in Raleigh for Game 2 tomorrow, before heading back to Vegas for Game 3 on Saturday.

2) Get-in price for NBA Finals in NY nears $4K

The cheapest tickets to the New York Knicks home games at Madison Square Garden for the upcoming NBA Finals are selling for nearly $4K apiece, per secondary marketplace TickPick.

  • That’s ~5x higher than the get-in price for Game 1 tonight in San Antonio ($750).
  • In theory, Knicks fans could fly roundtrip to Texas, stay at a hotel for 3 nights, and go to Games 1 and 2 in San Antonio—and it’d still be nearly $1K cheaper than a MSG ticket.
  • On the high end, some near-courtside seats at MSG are listed for $220K each on SeatGeek.

3) Rams’ Aaron Donald hints at return after Garrett trade

In recent days, legendary former LA Rams DT Aaron Donald has strongly hinted at a possible return from retirement to join reigning NFL DPOY Myles Garrett on the Rams’ defensive line.

  • In response to a text from Pat McAfee, Donald said LA’s blockbuster trade for Garrett “for sure got me thinking” about another possible run at a Super Bowl.
  • “35, removed two years ago, gotta see if that fire can light back up," Donald wrote, according to McAfee.
  • Donald also sent a similar message to at least three other people over a 24-hour period, per CBS Sports’ John Breech.

Could the Rams get even better?

4) Big Ten, SEC oppose landmark college sports bill

The two largest conferences published a joint statement saying they don’t support a new bipartisan bill in Congress to establish a national framework for college athletics.

  • The bill would provide the NCAA with an antitrust exemption to enforce several rules, including the ability to limit transfers, restrict athlete eligibility, and prohibit schools from poaching a coach mid-season.
  • The Big Ten-SEC statement says the bill “leaves critical issues unresolved,” while analysts say they oppose a measure encouraging conferences to pool their media rights.
  • The bill is the subject of a Senate hearing today, and faces a long road before potentially becoming law.

5) Madden, CFB 27 unveil cover athletes

EA Sports this morning announced Chicago Bears QB Caleb Williams will be the cover athlete for Madden NFL 27, becoming the first player in Bears history to earn that distinction.

  • It comes a day after EA Sports revealed the athletes on the standard cover of CFB 27: Ole Miss RB Kewan Lacy, Miami WR Malachi Toney, and Oregon QB Dante Moore.
  • They’ll be joined by Indiana coach Curt Cignetti, USC QB Jayden Maiava, Texas LB Colin Simmons, and Notre Dame CB Leonard Moore on the deluxe edition’s cover.
