1) Carlos Beltrán, Andruw Jones elected to MLB Hall of Fame
Beltrán, a 9x All-Star and 3x Gold Glove winner who played CF for seven teams across 20 years, was elected by writers in his fourth year of eligibility with 84.2% of votes, easily clearing the 75% threshold.
Jones, a 5x All-Star and longtime Braves CF who’s one of six outfielders with 10 Gold Gloves, was named on 78.4% of ballots, narrowly clearing the bar in his ninth and second-to-last year of eligibility.
- Beltrán and Jones will be formally inducted into Cooperstown this summer alongside 2B Jeff Kent, who was elected last month by a contemporary committee.
- The next closest vote-getters were 2B Chase Utley (59.1%; 3rd year on the ballot), SP Andy Pettitte (48.5%; 8th), and SP Félix Hernández (46.1%; 2nd). See the full results.
2) Duke sues its own QB to stop transfer
The university sued its star QB Darian Mensah yesterday, alleging that he had agreed to stay at Duke before making a last-minute announcement to enter the transfer portal late last week.
- A judge quickly denied Duke’s request for a temporary restraining order that would’ve prevented Mensah from entering the transfer portal, with his entry expected to be finalized later today.
- Mensah’s contract with Duke was reportedly worth up to $4 million for the upcoming season, and also prohibits another university from using Mensah’s NIL rights.

3) LA Chargers snag top head-coaching candidate—for OC
The Chargers are planning to hire former Miami Dolphins HC Mike McDaniel as their new offensive coordinator under Jim Harbaugh, per multiple reports.
- McDaniel, 42, had interviewed with several teams for their open head coaching jobs, though he reportedly withdrew from the Browns’ search. He was also the top OC target for the Eagles and Buccaneers.
- According to reports, McDaniel’s deal to become the Chargers’ new OC is still pending in case he’s selected by the Ravens or Raiders as their new head coach.

4) NCAA champ drops out to join LIV Golf
Michael La Sasso, a first-team All-American and reigning individual NCAA champion in golf, is forfeiting his last year of college eligibility at Ole Miss and joining the LIV Golf tour for the upcoming season.
- With his decision to join LIV, La Sasso also forfeits a special exemption to play in the Masters this spring as the NCAA champion.
- La Sasso, 22, will make his pro debut in two weeks at the LIV season opener in Riyadh as part of Phil Mickelson’s team, the HyFlyers GC.
5) MLB owners reportedly “raging” after Dodgers spending spree
In the wake of the Dodgers swooping in last week to sign OF Kyle Tucker to a mammoth 4-yr, $240M deal, MLB owner frustration has reportedly reached a boiling point ahead of CBA negotiations set for later this year.
It’s now “a 100 percent certainty” that MLB owners will push for a salary cap in response to the Dodgers’ latest move to expand their payroll, per a new report from The Athletic’s Evan Drellich.
- For context: since the Dodgers are in the MLB’s highest luxury tax bracket threshold, LA will pay a 110% tax on Tucker’s contract.
- This means Tucker will cost the Dodgers just under $120M out-of-pocket in 2026—more than 11 MLB teams will pay for their entire roster.
