1) Arizona Cardinals to release QB Kyler Murray

The Kyler Murray era in Arizona is officially coming to an end, with the Cardinals informing their QB that he’ll be released once the new league year begins next Wednesday (barring a trade between now and then).

  • Murray, who was selected #1 overall in 2019, earned Offensive Rookie of the Year, made two Pro Bowls, and led the Cardinals to one playoff appearance during his time in Arizona.
  • Murray is due $36.8M in guarantees for 2026, meaning he'll likely play for the veteran minimum on a new team next season if released.

2) Mississippi lawmakers pass bill to remove tax on NIL

The state’s House of Representatives passed a bill this week that would make student-athlete NIL earnings exempt from Mississippi’s 4% income tax (but still subject to federal taxes).

  • Lawmakers frame the move as a recruiting tool for Ole Miss and Mississippi State, placing them on equal footing with other states that host SEC universities.
  • Florida, Tennessee, and Texas have no state income tax, and Arkansas was the first state to exempt NIL earnings from income tax in 2025.
  • Mississippi’s bill still needs approval from the Senate and governor before becoming law.

  • The Phantom, who are missing DPOY Aliyah Boston due to injury, relied heavily on fellow WNBA star Kelsey Plum in their run to the finals.
  • The Mist are led by Unrivaled co-founder Breanna Stewart alongside fellow WNBA stars Arike Ogunbowale and Allisha Gray.

4) Bears’ Pro Bowl center suddenly retires at 27

Bears C Drew Dalman, who made the Pro Bowl last season after allowing just one sack all year, informed the team yesterday that he plans to retire from the NFL at age 27.

  • Dalman, a 4th-round pick from Stanford in 2021, was one year into a 3-yr, $42M contract signed with the Bears in free agency.
  • He started all 17 games for a Bears offensive line that ranked #1 in pass block win rate and 5th in run block win rate last season, and helped bring an NFC North title to Chicago.

5) Coach K opposes March Madness expansion

In an interview this week, legendary former Duke basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski said he’s against expanding the NCAA Tournament field beyond the current 68 teams, since it could dilute the magic of March Madness.

  • The NCAA is discussing plans to expand March Madness for the first time since 2011, with officials debating whether to widen the field to 72 or 76 teams as early as 2027.
  • In addition to his March Madness comments, Coach K also suggested college basketball should find more specialized leadership outside of NCAA President Charlie Baker.
