1) Bill Belichick reportedly snubbed from Hall of Fame

Bill Belichick was left out of the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year on the ballot after failing to reach the 40/50 vote threshold, per multiple reports, prompting reactions of disbelief around the NFL world.

The former Patriots head coach/GM is regarded by many as the greatest coach in NFL history, with the most Super Bowl wins (6) and appearances (9), the second-most wins (333), and two additional Super Bowls as a DC.

• Spygate and Deflategate, the twin Patriots cheating scandals during their dynasty, reportedly came up in deliberations among HoF voters.
• ESPN identified Bill Polian, the former GM of the Indianapolis Colts, as telling some voters Belichick should "wait a year" as penance—though Polian, 82, denied doing so.

2) Cleveland Browns hire Todd Monken as head coach

According to multiple reports published this morning, the Browns have decided to hire Ravens OC Todd Monken, who previously served as Cleveland’s OC in 2019.

• Monken will become Cleveland's 11th full-time coach since the franchise returned to the NFL in 1999, trailing only the Las Vegas Raiders (13) during that span.
• He’ll be tasked with rebuilding a Browns offense that ranks dead last in scoring over the past two seasons—but also inherits Cleveland’s top-ranked defense, which has allowed the fewest yards/game since 2023.

3) Duke QB transfers to rival Miami following legal battle

Earlier this month, Duke QB Darian Mensah—who led the school to the 2025 ACC Championship—announced plans to enter the portal, prompting a lawsuit from Duke alleging they had already signed Mensah for 2026.

• On Tuesday, Mensah reached a settlement with Duke allowing him to freely enter the transfer portal and play for another school in 2026.
• Then, hours later, Mensah committed to play at Miami next season.
• He joins Duke’s star WR Cooper Barkate, who entered the transfer portal on the last day it was open, like Mensah did, and also committed to Miami.

4) Nebrasketball’s historic win streak has ended

The longest winning streak major college basketball has seen in over a decade ended at 24 games last night, when #5 Nebraska lost 75-72 on the road at #3 Michigan.

The historic 24-game streak was even more remarkable given the Cornhuskers’ lackluster history in men’s basketball.

• Nebraska is the only power-conference program that has never won an NCAA tournament game
• The team also hasn’t produced a first-round NBA draft pick since 1998 (Tyronn Lue).

5) Djokovic headed to Aussie semifinals following lucky break

World #4 Novak Djokovic, whose 10 Australian Open titles are four more than any other player in history, needed a bit more than skill to advance to the semis of this year’s edition.

• The 38-year-old Djokovic had lost the first two sets against fifth-seeded Lorenzo Musetti when the 23-year-old Italian was forced to retire (aka quit) due to a leg injury.
• It marked the second straight match Djokovic won by forfeit, after his previous opponent withdrew shortly before their fourth-round matchup.
• Djokovic will face world #2 Jannik Sinner in the Australian Open semifinals, with #1 Carlos Alcaraz facing #3 Alexander Zverev on the other side of the bracket.
