1) LA Clippers suddenly cut ties with Chris Paul
The Clippers abruptly parted ways with future Hall of Fame PG Chris Paul overnight, with the 12-time All-Star himself posting the news on social media a little before 3 am ET this morning.
- According to The Athletic ($), the decision wasn’t Paul’s, and wasn’t one that was initiated by him.
- Paul, who’s widely considered the greatest Clipper in franchise history, was on his retirement tour after going back to Los Angeles for his 21st and final NBA season.
- It’s currently unclear whether Paul plans to play for another team, which would require the Clippers to trade or waive him.

2) Latest CFP rankings could spell trouble for Notre Dame
In a surprise move during last night’s penultimate CFP rankings show, the committee moved Alabama up to #9 and dropped Notre Dame to #10.
And, with the final CFP spot set go to the team ranked #10 next week (due to automatic qualifiers), it could spell bad news for Notre Dame following this weekend’s Big 12 title game between #4 Texas Tech and #11 BYU.
- If BYU wins, both Big 12 teams would likely make the CFP, leaving the Fighting Irish out.
- But if Texas Tech wins, Notre Dame would likely have just one competitor for the last CFP spot: #12 Miami, who beat the Irish earlier this season.
3) NFL RedZone significantly upped commercials last week
At the beginning of this season, the NFL said it would be airing just four 15-second ads throughout its seven-hour RedZone telecast in Week 1. But fast forward to Week 13, and that figure has been left in the dust.
- RedZone’s broadcast on Sunday featured 16 ads for a total of 5 minutes and 10 seconds, according to Sports Business Journal.
- Half were double-box ads while football played on the other box, while the other half were banner ads taking up a majority of the screen.

4) LSU women’s scorching hot start sets NCAA hoops record
The Tigers’ #5-ranked women’s basketball team (8-0) has scored 100 points in all eight games to start the season, breaking a 43-year NCAA record for longest streak of reaching 100 points at any point in a season.
- The previous record of six straight games was held by Louisiana Tech, who went on to win the inaugural NCAA women's basketball championship in 1982.
- And here’s the crazy part: the All-American PG on that Louisiana Tech team, Kim Mulkey, is now head coach at LSU.

5) CFB National Signing Day is today
College football's three-day early signing period kicks off today with National Signing Day, with many Class of 2026 high school recruits locking themselves into the college of their choice for at least the next year.
- Early winners include Vanderbilt, who flipped #1 overall QB recruit Jared Curtis from Georgia, as well as Texas, who leads the way with four five-star athletes (per ESPN).
- If a prospect doesn't sign a national letter of intent by Friday, the next national signing period for this cycle begins February 4.
