2) CFB bowl game cancellations continue

The Detroit-based GameAbove Sports Bowl—formerly the Motor City Bowl, Little Caesars Pizza Bowl, and Quick Lane Bowl—has reportedly been canceled after a 29-year run.

  • It’s the third CFB bowl game to be axed in the past 12 months, joining the Bahamas Bowl and LA Bowl.
  • The move also continues a trend of the playoffs taking over bowl season.
  • As it currently stands, roughly one-quarter of the ~45 postseason games set for 2026-27 will be tied to the CFP.

The list of prospective Hall of Famers for the Class of 2026 is headlined by first-time nominees Blake Griffin, Candace Parker, Mike D'Antoni, and Kelvin Sampson.

  • Some of the bigger names getting a second look for induction include Doc Rivers, Amar'e Stoudemire, and Gonzaga head coach Mark Few.

4) MLB has a hamate bone injury epidemic

Arizona RF Corbin Carroll and Baltimore 2B Jackson Holliday will both need surgery after breaking their hamate bones on Wednesday in early spring training activities.

  • They join star NY Mets SS Francisco Lindor, whose broken hamate bone was announced Tuesday.
  • All three players are projected to miss ~6 weeks, putting their availability for Opening Day in question.
  • Hamate bone injuries are uniquely common across MLB hitters, since the knob of their bat rests up against it and delivers constant vibration/pressure.

5) LED court floors are coming to high-level basketball

The Big 12 revealed its basketball tournament this year will be played on a “state-of-the-art full LED video sports floor,” meaning the court can change its color and design in real-time.

  • The Big 12 says its new LED court will be used to “highlight new partnership opportunities,” and can feature effects like shot charts, animated replays, or interactive fan games during timeouts.
  • The same LED floor technology has been used during the NBA’s All-Star weekend, as well as international EuroLeague games.
