1) Michigan’s Sherrone Moore fired + arrested

Moore, who took over as Michigan’s head football coach in 2024, was fired yesterday afternoon for cause after UofM officials confirmed he had an inappropriate relationship with a staff member.

About a half-hour before his firing was officially announced, Moore was arrested for his involvement in an alleged assault, and spent the night in county jail. Police declined to release any further details at this time.

  • Moore’s dismissal after two seasons—and a 17-8 record—marks the shortest tenure by a UofM head football coach in nearly a century.
  • Associate head coach Biff Poggi was named Michigan’s interim, while the school has begun searching for a full-time replacement.

2) YouTube TV to launch sports-only bundles

Yesterday, YouTube announced plans to launch 10 genre-specific packages, including a YouTube TV Sports Plan in early 2026.

  • The YouTube TV Sports Plan will give fans access to all the major broadcasters, along with popular sports networks like Fox Sports 1, NBC Sports Network, and all ESPN networks (including ESPN Unlimited).
  • Customers can also add NFL Sunday Ticket or RedZone for an extra fee.
  • Pricing for the new sports bundle hasn’t been confirmed, though analysts project something in the $55-$60/month range. YouTube TV's base package currently costs $82.99/month.

3) Pete Alonso signs with Baltimore Orioles

Alonso, the 31-year-old slugging first-baseman nicknamed Polar Bear, reportedly agreed to a 5-yr, $155M contract with the Orioles yesterday.

  • The $31M/yr deal is tied for the second-highest average annual value ever given to a first baseman.
  • Alonso, the Mets' all-time leader in home runs, reportedly never received a formal contract offer from New York before he signed with the Orioles.

4) OKC Thunder continue historic winning pace

The Thunder smoked the Phoenix Suns 138-89 last night to advance to the finals of the NBA Cup, in the biggest blowout of the season thus far. The victory brings OKC’s record to 24-1, with 16 straight wins.

  • They’ve now tied the 2015-2016 Golden State Warriors for the best start in NBA history through the first 25 games, and have a realistic shot at surpassing the Warriors for the best regular-season record of all time (73-9).
  • The Thunder face the Spurs on Saturday with the NBA Cup title—and $500K+ per player—on the line.

5) NFL votes to spend $1M/team on flag football

Plans for an NFL-supported professional flag football league took a major step forward yesterday, with teams voting to invest a collective $32M to support the league’s “development and launch.”

  • The NFL’s planned push into flag football comes as the sport is set to make its Olympic debut in 2028 Los Angeles Summer Games.
  • The new NFL-supported league will reportedly feature both men’s and women’s teams, and is expected to launch after the Olympics in 2028.
