Plus: College hoops All-Name Team…

1) Dodgers’ Yamamoto tosses first playoff complete game since 2017
Yoshinobu Yamamoto gave up just three hits and notched seven strikeouts across all nine innings in the Dodgers’ 5-1 win over the Brewers last night, sending Los Angeles home with a 2-0 lead in the NLCS.
- In the ALCS, the situation is identical: the Mariners face off against the Blue Jays tonight (7:08 pm CT), with Seattle holding a 2-0 series lead heading back to their home turf.
- It marks the first time since 1970 that both road teams in the League Championship Series started 2-0.
2) Big Ten private capital proposal receives pushback
The Big Ten is currently seeking unanimous approval from member schools to move forward with a $2.4 billion private capital proposal involving investment from the University of California pension system.
- However, board members at Michigan and USC reportedly have “close to unanimous feelings of opposition” towards the deal, and met virtually yesterday to discuss their issues.
- While university presidents will ultimately be the ones to vote on the deal, both Michigan and USC’s boards carry significant influence within their universities.
3) There’s a new NFL MVP betting favorite…
…who’s also a very familiar name in these conversations. Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes is now the favorite to win his third NFL MVP this season, with a 33% chance per BetMGM.
- Mahomes leapfrogged Bills QB Josh Allen (27%) after Buffalo’s Monday night loss to the Falcons.
- Buccaneers QB Baker Mayfield (22%) is the only other player with double-digit MVP odds, followed by Lions QB Jared Goff (6%) and Rams QB Matthew Stafford (6%).
4) This year’s CBB "All Name Team" is out

5) NHL’s Rangers start off with historic home losing streak
The New York Rangers made NHL history last night by becoming the first team ever to be shut out in each of its first three home games to start the season.
- Elsewhere in the NHL, the Carolina Hurricanes and Dallas Stars are the only remaining unbeaten teams after one full week of regular-season games.
- On the flip side, the Buffalo Sabres, NY Islanders, and San Jose Sharks are the only teams who remain winless.
