2) MLB raises its cap offer in CBA negotiations

MLB owners revised their labor offer to players yesterday, making it so their proposed salary cap would start in 2028 instead of next season.

  • The league also increased its proposed cap figures to a $258.2M ceiling and $180.2M floor, up from $245.3M and $171.2M earlier.
  • But while the MLB is strongly pursuing a cap and floor, the Players Association has consistently opposed any cap.
  • Union officials say players would lose $1B+ over the length of the league's proposed cap system, reflecting a gap between both sides that could cause a prolonged lockout.
