1) Argentina stuns England to make WC final

Argentina's Enzo Fernández and Lautaro Martínez scored late goals to earn a 2-1 comeback win over England yesterday, sending the reigning champs to the World Cup final.

  • Argentina will face Spain in the final at New York/New Jersey Stadium (MetLife Stadium) on Sunday.
  • Argentina is seeking its 4th title and looking to become the 1st back-to-back champ since Brazil (1958 & 1962), while Spain is looking for its 2nd title after winning in 2010.
  • The match will be a battle of opposing styles: Argentina leads the World Cup in goals scored (19), while Spain has the fewest goals allowed (1).

2) 154th British Open tees off

The British Open began early this morning at Royal Birkdale in England, with the first wave of golfers teeing off at 12:36 am CT.

  • The Open Championship marks the climax of the annual golf season, ending a ~100-day sprint that includes all 4 major tournaments.
  • World #1 Scottie Scheffler is the betting favorite once again this week, and finished this morning’s action 2 shots shy of clubhouse leaders Sungjae Im (-4) and Dan Brown (-4).
  • Meanwhile, Bryson DeChambeau is hoping to avoid becoming the only multiple-major winner under age 40 to miss the cut at all 4 majors in a single season.

3) Knicks are big winner at 2026 ESPYs

The 2026 ESPYs took place last night in New York, where the hometown Knicks walked away with a boatload of major hardware.

  • ESPN's annual sports awards show honored the Knicks for best team, best male athlete (Jalen Brunson), and best play (OG Anunoby's tip-in) of the past year.
  • Other awards include best record-breaking performance (Myles Garrett’s NFL-record 23 sacks), best WNBA player (A’ja Wilson), and best single-game performance (Shohei Ohtani, Game 4 NLCS).

4) ACC changes football tiebreaker after chaotic 2025

The ACC is changing its tiebreaker policy for football, after a 7th tiebreaker last year led to eventual champ Duke (7-5) making the conference title game while CFP runner-up Miami (10-2) did not.

  • Head-to-head matchups will remain the top tiebreaker, followed by winning percentage.
  • However, subsequent tiebreakers involving 3+ teams will be settled by a Sport Source Analytics metric used by the CFP committee.
  • It comes as the winner of the Power 4 championship games (including the ACC) are now guaranteed a spot in the CFP, a change from previous seasons.
