Good afternoon. Welcome back to another week full of top sports stories. Let’s rock and roll.

1) Spurs beat Thunder in instant classic Game 1

San Antonio prevailed over Oklahoma City in double OT last night, pulling out a 122-115 victory to take a 1-0 lead in the NBA’s Western Conference Finals.

  • Spurs C Victor Wembanyama racked up 41 pts and 24 rebs—including a game-tying shot in OT from way downtown—becoming the youngest player to record 40-20 in a playoff game.
  • Wemby, who played a career-high 49 minutes, also outscored the Thunder by himself in the double OT period (9-7).
  • Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander finished with 24 pts (7-23 FG) and 12 asts, while G Alex Caruso added 31 points off the bench (8-14 3PT).

2) The NHL's Final Four is set

The Montreal Canadiens beat Buffalo in a Game 7 OT thriller last night, advancing to the Eastern Conference Finals against the Carolina Hurricanes.

  • It’s a tale of two playoff performances: Carolina holds a perfect 8-0 postseason record, while Montreal has gone to a full 7 games in both series.
  • In the Western Conference Finals, the Las Vegas Knights face the NHL-best Colorado Avalanche, who’ve only dropped a single playoff game (8-1).
  • Action kicks off with the Avalanche-Knights on Wednesday, followed by the Canadiens-Hurricanes Game 1 on Thursday.

3) Star NFL WR calls out “disrespectful” trophy gaffe

Seahawks WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba, the reigning NFL Offensive Player of the Year, posted a video to Instagram showing that his trophy was mislabeled as “Defensive Player of the Year.”

  • Smith-Njigba also pointed out a smaller typo where "TheYear" was one word, with the caption: “It's getting disrespectful at this point.”
  • JSN was likely referring to a similar error at the February NFL Honors event, when his name was mispronounced multiple times by presenter Druski.
  • After leading the NFL in receiving yards en route to a Seahawks Super Bowl victory, JSN signed a 4-yr, $168.6M contract making him the highest-paid WR ever.

4) Man City legend Pep Guardiola to step down

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola has reportedly informed the team he will step down next week after 10 seasons, ending one of the most successful tenures in Premier League history.

  • Man City has won 20 major trophies under Guardiola’s leadership, including the FA Cup this past weekend.
  • They’re also still in the running to win this season’s Premier League, which wraps up on Sunday with Guardiola’s final game as manager.
  • Reports say former Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is expected to replace Guardiola.

5) LA Angels turn potential no-hit loss into walk-off win

Athletics starter J.T. Ginn took a no-hitter into the 9th inning of last night’s game against the Angels—but just 6 pitches later, he walked off the mound with a heartbreaking loss.

  • The A’s entered the 9th with a slim 1-0 lead, but a leadoff single followed by a walk-off HR by Angels SS Zach Neto quickly ended the game.
  • Ginn was going for the first MLB no-hitter since Shota Imanaga combined with two Chicago Cubs relievers for a 12-0 win over Pittsburgh in Sept. 2024.
  • The Angels narrowly continued their MLB-leading streak of 4,228 consecutive games without being no-hit (dating back to 1999).
