1) Irish club breaks 75-year curse, wins Gaelic football title
Ireland’s Mayo county team won the All-Ireland title in Gaelic football on Sunday, with Mayo beating Kerry to claim their first championship in 75 years.
- After its last title in 1951, Mayo went to the All-Ireland final 11 times without a victory over the years, lending credence to the so-called “Curse of the Mayo.”
- According to legend, the players from the 1951 championship team interrupted a funeral procession on their celebration tour, causing a priest to curse the franchise so that it wouldn’t win while any players from 1951 were still alive.
- It was Mayo’s first All-Ireland final since the last player passed away in 2021.

2) NFL training camps kick off across the league
The final 26 NFL teams officially began training camp today, with veterans reporting across the league—including Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes, who’s now fully cleared to practice as he returns from a torn left ACL and LCL.

3) Rookie golfer beats world #1 in third pro start
Jackson Koivun, 21, won the 3M Open on Sunday evening after shooting a tournament-record 25-under for the weekend in just his 3rd professional start.
- Koivun held off 2nd-place Scottie Scheffler, the world’s #1 golfer, by a 3-shot margin to earn the ~$1.6M first prize and a Masters invite.
- The former Auburn star—and 2x Ben Hogan Award winner for best male college golfer—also rocketed from #194 to #70 in the FedEx Cup standings, landing right inside the playoff bubble.

4) Stanford football players launch effort to unionize
Stanford football players this week formed a campus chapter of the College Football Players Association (CFPA), making them the first team to partner with the organization seeking to unionize all college athletes..
- The CFPA, launched in 2021, is a member-led advocacy organization with the ultimate goal of achieving conference-by-conference unionization and collective bargaining for college athletes.
- Several other programs in the ACC and other power conferences are on the cusp of forming their own chapters, per CFBPA executive director Jason Stahl.
