Plus: Can Trump move World Cup matches?...

Good afternoon. Ready for the top-five sports stories of the day? Just keep scrolling.
1) MLB unveils 2025 Gold Glove finalists
The top-three finalists for the Gold Glove award at every position were announced this week, with the winners scheduled to be revealed on November 2.
- Notable finalists include Dodgers SS Mookie Betts, who has six Gold Gloves as an outfielder, as well as Guardians 3B José Ramírez, who’s seeking his first Gold Glove.
- Finalists for most other major MLB awards—including MVP, Cy Young, Rookie of the Year, etc.—are expected to come a week or two after the World Series ends.

2) Formula 1 heads to Austin, Texas
The United States Grand Prix takes place this weekend at the Circuit of the Americas track in Austin, with 400,000+ fans expected to be in attendance.
- It’s the second of three trips to the US for the F1 this season, following a May race in Miami and ahead of the upcoming Las Vegas Grand Prix.
- McLaren’s Oscar Piastri and Lando Norris currently have a stranglehold over the top-two spots on the F1 drivers’ standings, with six races left to go in the season.
3) Victor Wembanyama’s true height remains a mystery
The Spurs’ young star has seen his official listed height fluctuate considerably in recent years, going from 7-5 as a prospect, to 7-4 as a rookie, to 7-3 as a sophomore, and now back to 7-4 as he enters his third season.
- But some think those figures are an undercount. Former NBA big man Boban Marjanović, who’s 7-4 himself, has lent credence to the notion that Wemby could be closer to 7-7.
4) Steelers try to break 45-year Thursday losing streak
Pittsburgh has played a total of eight Thursday games on the road against a divisional opponent dating back to 1980, and the Steelers have gone 0-8 in those games (including 0-6 under head coach Mike Tomlin).
- But the team has a chance to end the streak tonight, when they travel to Cincinnati to take on the Bengals in a game where Pittsburgh is favored by 5.5 points.
- It’s not just divisional games, either. Since the AFL-NFL merger in 1970, the Steelers carry an NFL-worst record of 3-15 in all Thursday road games.
5) World Cup host cities could be subject to change
President Trump yesterday said he could potentially move 2026 World Cup matches from Boston over alleged safety concerns, following similar threats to move matches from Seattle and San Francisco.
- In a statement published this morning, FIFA confirmed that the US government has the final say on determining the safety of World Cup host cities.
- Trump has also suggested he could move the 2028 Olympics out of Los Angeles “if I thought LA was not going to be prepared properly.”
