1) The World Series matchup is set

The Toronto Blue Jays punched their ticket to the World Series for the first time since 1993, following a dramatic 4-3 win in Game 7 of the ALCS against the Seattle Mariners.

  • A three‑run homer by George Springer in the 7th inning—which tied him for third all-time in career postseason homers—was the deciding factor in ending Toronto’s 32‑year Fall Classic drought.
  • Meanwhile, the defending champion Los Angeles Dodgers wrapped up their NLCS in four games and now face Toronto in Game 1 of the World Series on Friday.

2) NBA regular season tips off tonight

The 2025‑26 NBA season tips off tonight with a blockbuster double‑header: the defending champion OKC Thunder take on the Houston Rockets, while the Golden State Warriors face the LA Lakers. Both matchups are layered with star power and storylines:

  • Kevin Durant will make his debut for the Rockets in a return to OKC, while the Thunder are raising their championship banner tonight.
  • LeBron James is sidelined with injury until November, handing the Lakers’ leadership baton to Luka Dončić—who’s starting off against the Warriors’ veteran trio of Steph Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler.

3) First US pro women’s baseball league in 70+ years unveils host cities

New York, Boston, Los Angeles, and San Francisco will be the first four cities to host teams in the brand-new Women’s Pro Baseball League (WPBL), officials told The Athletic. The upstart league was co-founded by Justine Siegal, the first woman to coach for an MLB team back in 2015.

  • The WPBL is debuting next year with four teams, who’ll each fill out their 15 roster spots at an online draft next month.
  • The league previously held a 600+-player tryout in August featuring some of the sport's biggest stars.
  • It’s the first pro women’s baseball circuit since the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League folded in 1954.

4) Legendary Eagles DE is coming out of retirement

Veteran DE Brandon Graham has officially signed a deal to rejoin the Philadelphia Eagles, reopening his storied 15‑year career after previously announcing his retirement in March.

  • Graham, 37, holds the Eagles’ all-time record for most regular‑season games (206), ranks third in franchise history with 76.5 career sacks, and won two Super Bowls with the team.
  • His return comes amid a rash of injuries and a surprise retirement among Eagles edge rushers, with Graham set to suit up as early as this weekend.

5) Jack Nicklaus wins $50M defamation suit over false LIV Golf claims

Nicklaus, 85, was awarded that sum via jury verdict in a defamation lawsuit against the Nicklaus Companies, which is named after the golfing legend but owned by billionaire banker Howard Milstein.

  • The $50M judgement was rendered after the golfer sued Nicklaus Companies for falsely claiming that he had considered a $750M deal to lead LIV Golf, and that Nicklaus was mentally unfit to manage his affairs.
