📰🏟️ November Madness
Major CBB tourney in full swing...

Good afternoon. Welcome back to a holiday-shortened week full of top sports stories. Let’s rock and roll.
1) Several major NFL records are in play this season
With roughly one-third of the regular season remaining, a number of star players are on pace to break NFL records that have stood for years or decades.
- Browns DE Myles Garrett has 18 sacks through 11 games, on pace to demolish the NFL’s single-season sack record with 27 (current mark: 22.5).
- Seahawks WR Jaxson Smith-Njigba is on pace to become the first player in NFL history with 2,000 receiving yards in a season (current record: 1,964).
- Rams QB Matthew Stafford is the odds-on favorite to win NFL MVP, which would make him the oldest-ever first-time MVP winner at 37.
2) College basketball’s Players Era Festival is in full swing
The three-day hoops event, which tipped off yesterday, features an 18-team men’s CBB tournament running alongside a four-team women’s tournament.
- On the men’s side, all 18 teams play two preset games on Monday and Tuesday, with the two best teams in terms of record and tiebreakers (like point differential) advancing to tomorrow’s championship game.
- The women’s tournament, which includes three of last year’s Final Four teams, features two semifinal matchups tomorrow, and the championship/third-place games on Thursday.
- Every participating team is guaranteed at least $1M in NIL-related payments, with an extra $1M bonus for the champion.

3) Detroit Pistons tie franchise record with 13th straight win
Last night’s win over the Pacers means the Pistons (15-2) have now already eclipsed their win total from two seasons ago, when they held a franchise-worst 14-68 record and tied the NBA record with 28 straight losses.
- It also gives Detroit a 2.5-game advantage over the #2-seeded Toronto Raptors atop the Eastern Conference.
- More good news for Pistons fans: the two other times Detroit won 13 straight—in 1989-90 and 2003-04—they took home the NBA championship.
4) The 2026 World Baseball Classic is stacked with MLB stars
LA Dodgers superstar and 4x MVP Shohei Ohtani confirmed last night that he plans to help Team Japan defend its title in the 2026 WBC, joining several of the biggest names in the MLB who’ve also announced their participation.
- Team USA will feature AL MVP Aaron Judge, NL Cy Young winner Paul Skenes, Mariners C Cal “Big Dumper” Raleigh, Royals SS Bobby Witt, and more.
- Other notable commitments include Francisco Lindor and Carlos Correa for Team Puerto Rico, Jose Altuve and Salvador Perez for Team Venezuela, and Bo Bichette for Team Brazil.
5) NFL unveils Hall of Fame semifinalists
The list of candidates for induction was officially narrowed to 26 semifinalists earlier today. The selection committee will next reduce the list to 15 finalists, who will be voted on before the Super Bowl in February.
- Several notable players made the most recent cut in their first year of HoF eligibility, including Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, Larry Fitzgerald, Jason Witten and Frank Gore.
- Returning HoF hopefuls include Eli Manning, Reggie Wayne, Terrell Suggs, Adam Vinatieri, and Luke Kuechly.
